Billikens in Poitiers
Oregon University System- Poitiers

Experience life in a thriving and culturally diverse medium-size city, where more than twenty centuries of civilization are still visible in buildings graced by Roman, Medieval and Renaissance
architecture. A major university center, Poitiers offers students the chance to immerse themselves in the French language and culture in an attractive and friendly environment within
easy reach by train of Paris and Bordeaux, as well as many culturally rich areas throughout France. Through the Poitiers program, students experience living and studying in a unique
cultural and linguistic environment while creating long-lasting friendships.

University and Program
Established in 1431, the University of Poitiers is the second oldest university in France and counts François Rabelais, René Descartes, and Francis Bacon amongst its former students. Highly regarded within France, the University of Poitiers provides 24,500 students a full range of  quality courses in science, liberal arts, medicine, engineering, law, economics, and management. Poitiers provides a student friendly environment with the highest per capita student population of any city in France. Students can attend courses in the university's Centre de Français Langue Etrangère (CFLE) or enroll in regular university courses.

This semester or academic year-long, full-immersion program allows students to experience France and its culture firsthand. Students take classes in the French university system with French natives and other international students. You'll come back to SLU transformed by this charming country and its people.

Please note that students will attend a thorough pre-departure orientation and are encouraged to invite their parents.

The semester option is designed for students with strong French proficiency who can take a combination of high-level language institute courses along with French university courses in a variety of academic areas. A set of 12-15 courses, including both Institute and regular university offerings will be proposed to students. Courses include French language and culture, history, literature and other areas.. Because the University of Poitiers is a comprehensive university with a broad array of academic specialties, on-site staff can assist students in selecting other suitable courses should they have interests in other areas. Fall semester students can elect to extend their stay for the entire academic year. Immediately upon course availability, students are instructed to contact their Academic department as well as the French Faculty Coordinator for the program regarding course approvals (per the Course Approval form).
